The Clark Atlanta University newspaper team is working with two local non-profit organizations in order to assist the homeless of Atlanta this 2018 winter season. Comfort Atlanta and Ufirst both have a vision to see a world where no one goes cold.
Comfort Atlanta boldly addresses the problem of chronically homeless people who can’t get into or chooses not to go to shelters yet end up freezing on the streets. The organization receives and delivers donations via social calls to action and other traditional methods of outreach. Founders of Comfort Atlanta, Melvin & Marcel Middleton adds, “We are committed to bringing social awareness to the issues of chronically homeless individuals freezing and the impact that this has on their psyche and their physical well-being.”
Erica Wright, Founder & CEO of Ufirst states, “Our goal to help those in need starts with people like you. If one person can make a difference can you imagine what a community can do? With this said, I am very thrilled to work with each every person in supporting a great cause. Kudos for caring.” Ufirst work tirelessly within the communities to serve the homeless population in efforts to restore dignity to lead a healthy and whole life.
Collectively with the CAU Panther newspaper team, university campus organizations are asked to join this initiative by filling plastic storage bin(s) with donated blankets, socks, and gloves for men, women and children from November 26 until December 7, 2018. Collected items will be handed over to both Comfort Atlanta and Ufirst as volunteer teams are being assembled to hand deliver the donated items to Atlanta’s homeless.
The Clark Atlanta University Panther newspaper team consisting of students varying in majors eagerly agreed to lead this cause as a team after the information was presented to them by CAU mass media arts graduating senior and editor-in-chief, Trishunda Mooney. “I am overjoyed to know this team is fully supportive of making a difference in someone’s livelihood. Human beings they may never know, will be touched by their generous efforts to collect this needed items in hopes to make their lives a bit more comforted.”
An invitation is extended to anyone that would like to join us in assisting our brothers and sisters taking shelter on the Atlanta streets.
