Today, I experienced what true heat is. . .
Today, is my second full day in China!
We had breakfast in the hotel again at the same time as yesterday. I am going to record it tomorrow to show how it looks. It is buffet style. There is a variety of different breakfast options for everyone to choose from.
We went to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The ride to these places (which are walking distance away from each other) was 30 to 40 minutes away from the hotel. After that, we went to a outdoor/indoor mall and ate pizza. We could not go to the Beijing Capital Museum, so we ended up staying in the mall for the rest of the day before we came home.
We had to walk through a tunnel to Tiananmen Square and from there we went into the Forbidden City.
When we got to the side of the road that Tiananmen Square was on, we stopped to take pictures and learn more about the history of this location.
After we took all of our pictures and learned all about Tiananmen Square, we continued walking to the next destination, which was The Forbidden City.
This is when I really started to feel that China HEAT! It literally felt like I was burning on every point in and on my body. I began to sweat a lot. The weather was 100 degrees, but it felt like 2000 degrees. Every part of my body was screaming for an AC. I have never experienced heat like that before.
While walking into the entrance of the Forbidden City, we ran into two black men. It was exciting because we have barely seen other black people since we have been in China. When we seen them, we all shouted, "Ayyyye" and walked up to each other.
If I remember correctly, which I believe I do, here are some fun facts about the Forbidden City. . .
The Forbidden City was the home of one emperor, his wives, and the most elite people in China. It is called the Forbidden City because "regular" mundane people could not enter this palace.
While we were walking through the Forbidden City, we found another group of black people. This time it was a group of middle schoolers. It was great because we still all embraced each other and were happy to see each other. One of the chaperones ended up being a graduate of Clark Atlanta University.
We continued to walk through the Forbidden City and eventually we made it to the end. I loved seeing the Forbidden City, but I can honestly say that the the heat made it a little less enjoyable.
While walking to the bus, we bargained and interacted with the local people. The bargaining was fun and I ended up getting some gifts and souvenirs for cheaper. For lunch, we went to a mall and ate pizza.
It was the first piece of food that reminded me of back home.
IT. WAS. AMAZING.
I honestly was so close to crying because of how good it was. It was true authentic Italian pizza and I LOVE Italian food. I had a few slices chicken and cheese pizza, chicken wings, and french fries.
Because we got a late start that morning, we could not visit the Beijing Capital Museum. Instead, we stayed in the mall we were in and went shopping.
While we were in the mall, I walked pass The Gap. It was cool to see because in New York, I work on the 42nd street Gap, which is a main tourist location. I have to deal with the language barrier and help people shop. It was nice to be on the other side and shop in a different country.
After shopping, we got back on the bus and headed to dinner.
That was the end of my second full day in China!
